What are the Studebaker National Museum Archives?

The Studebaker National Museum Archives (SNMA) possesses the surviving corporate archives of the Studebaker Corporation, the Packard Motor Car Company, and local South Bend industries.

What Types of Items do the Archives Contain?

IMAGES
The SNMA holds over 50,000 images, dating to the 19th century, covering a wide variety of subjects. Image reproductions are available for both commercial and personal use.

ENGINEERING DRAWINGS
The SNMA possesses the largest collection of Studebaker Corporation and Packard Motor Car Co. engineering drawings in existence. The engineering drawing collection dates from the 1920s up through the end of production for both companies. Reproductions of Studebaker and Packard factory engineering drawings are available.

MOTION PICTURE FOOTAGE
Film footage from as early as 1927 can be found at the SNMA. The motion picture collection contains over 500 titles of Studebaker and Packard produced films including promotional films, television commercials, and movie shorts. Many titles are available through the Studebaker National Museum Store and the SNMA. Individual film footage reproduction is available for commercial use only.

GENERAL RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The SNMA can research your inquiry utilizing over 70 tons of archival material at their disposal. In-person research is also available during regular business hours.

PARTS AND SERVICE MANUALS
The SNMA offers a complete selection of Studebaker shop manuals and parts catalogs.

VEHICLE INFORMATION GUIDES
Vehicle Information Guides cover specific Studebaker models (i.e. 1964 Gran Turismo Hawk) and include in-depth articles, specifications, available colors, options and accessories, and service letters.

Can I Visit the Archives?

In-person research is available in the Studebaker Naitonal Museum Archives Reading Room. Researchers must have specific inquiries. The first 30 minutes of in-person research are free of charge during open hours; regular rates apply thereafter.
